Delta often provides travelers with a meal voucher if your flight is delayed, or if you missed a connecting flight. These vouchers contain a QR code and credit card number, CCV, and zip code to use just like a credit card. While they are similar, they do not work anywhere and you can’t swipe or tap them like a physical card. Delta meal vouchers are intended to work at the airport.

Where can Delta meal vouchers be used?

Delta meal vouchers can be used at most airport restaurants, for food and non-alcoholic beverages. Your meal voucher should work at the following restaurants:

  • Auntie Anne’s
  • Bobby Burger Palace
  • Burger King
  • Caribou Coffee
  • Charley’s Philly Steaks
  • Chick-fil-A
  • Dunkin Donuts
  • Einstein Bros. Bagels
  • Five Guys
  • Freshëns
  • IHOP Express
  • Jersey Mike’s
  • McDonald’s
  • P.F. Changs
  • Popeyes
  • Qdoba Mexican Grill
  • Sbarro
  • Shake Shack
  • Starbucks
  • TGI Friday’s
  • The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf
  • Wendy’s

Most sit-down restaurants also accept Delta meal vouchers, but ask the host if they accept them before being seated.

Can Delta meal vouchers be used outside the airport?

Delta meal vouchers are not intended to be used outside of the airport, however, many customers find success loading them into a food vendor’s mobile app (like Starbucks or Chick-fil-A). This is helpful to know because meal voucher funds expire on the stated “Redeem By” date at midnight Eastern time zone.

How To Add Delta Meal Voucher to the Starbucks App

While not officially supported, many people find success loading their meal voucher into the Starbucks mobile app, which allows them to use it later (outside of the airport).

  1. Open the Starbucks app on your phone
  2. Tap add funds
  3. Select your meal voucher amount (such as $15)
  4. Add a new payment method
  5. Enter your Delta meal voucher payment info

Closing Thoughts

It is frustrating when your flight is delayed but at least Delta offers meal vouchers to help pass the time and compensate for your delay. If you are not hungry during your delay, you can add Delta meal vouchers to Starbucks and other fast food apps to use at a later time, but YMMV. It may not work every time. This is because Delta sends you a virtual credit card number.
